This month’s meeting is on Wednesday, May 16th at our normal location at E3 Church in Scottsdale, AZ.

Topic: Robin Harris from ZDNet Storage Bits

Robin Harris from ZDNet’s Storage Bits is coming down from beautiful Sedona, AZ to talk to us about the current state Hard Drive technology and in particular Apple’s acquisition of Anobit and what it means to Apple and their competitors. It should be a very interesting meeting.

For those interested, Phil should have CS6 installed on his laptop by then so he can at least give a quick demo if time permits.

We don’t have any expenses so we don’t charge any dues or fees.

Check out this article that was just posted in Wired. This is an amazing device with a proposed retail price of $130. This could truly revolutionize video with this amount of very low cost remote camera control. You can preorder one for yourself by participating in the kick-starter program.

March 2012 Meeting

Tonight one of our awesome leaders, Phil Hoppes did a great presentation on the latest release of Final Cut Pro X.

He brought several things up that of course really cause lots of discussion. Multi-cam. Relinking media. SSD vs regular hard drives.

Thanks Phil for all the planning and time you spent on the presentation.

February Meeting Canceled but Bill Davis will host a FCPX workflow overview at his studio

Our February meeting had to be canceled, but Bill Davis has graciously offered to host a FCPX get together here at his home studio for people who want to take another look at FCP-X.

Bill has delivered more than a dozen projects out of X for companies including, Shea Homes, GE/CareCredit, Intel, Leslie’s Pool Supplies and The San Diego Blood Bank, and he’s offered to host the group in the studio (possibly the back yard if the weather’s nice!) – and answer peoples questions about workflows.

The meeting will be at the same time and day, 6pm on Wednesday 2/15/2012.

If you’ve never been there Bill has a great studio and is a very gracious host.

Apple releases Final Cut Pro 10.0.3

Today Apple release another update to which they are finally adding back some of the functionality of FCP 7. Today’s update includes multi-cam support and the ability to import FCP 7 projects via 3rd party app. You can read more about it here:

One of our members, John Trotto, will be giving some brief overviews on the best settings for shooting video with Canon DSLR’s. Guy Reed from Tempe Camera will be on hand also to answer any questions anyone may have.
We will also have our usual Q&A on working with FCP and FCPX. Hope everyone had a nice holiday and we are all looking forward to seeing you all in the new year.

Topic: AJA Video Inc Presentation

We are very fortunate that Tery Williams from AJA Video Inc. will be at the meeting to address some exciting announcements that will soon be made by AJA. In addition, AJA has offered a Kona 3G card (a $1995 Value!!) as a raffle prize. This is a stellar offering. Some lucky AZFCPUG attendee is going to have a very nice day come the end of the meeting. There will be an attendee registration required to qualify for the raffle. This will be a great way to close out the year.

In addition we will have our usual FCP and editing Q&A sessions so come prepared with all of your questions for the group.

In addition #2 we are announcing early, so that you may all plan with your holiday calendars, that December’s meeting will simply be a pot-luck exchange. The meeting will be held on Wednesday, December 14th at the E3 Church at our regular meeting time of 6pm to 9pm. We will have plates and cups and some soda. If you could all come with something good to eat, we can all enjoy, chat and reminisce over the previous year.

In addition #3, in case you missed it. As all of us have said a number of times, FCP7 is not dead by a long shot. Wes Plate of Automatic Duck has been hired full time by Adobe. As a final good-by, he is offering the entire line of Automatic Duck products for download for free. If your workflow requires you to go back and fourth between different NLE systems one or more of his products would be a must for you. You can download them from the following site.

Yep, you heard right. Wes Plate, owner and main guru at Automatic Duck was recently hired by Adobe. He and his dad have graciously decided that since they cannot support the product line anymore, they wanted to donate their products to the community. I know lots of users are still using FCP7 and Wes even has a few products for porting to FCPX. Just visit the Automatic Duck website and get what you need.
